Happy Friday, adventurers!
As you gear up for your weekend D&D sessions, we've got some exciting improvements to ICE5e that'll make managing your characters even smoother. We've been listening to your feedback (seriously, we have — more on that in a moment!) and pushing out updates that make the app more powerful and easier to use.
Let's dive into what's new.
🎫 A Whole New Way to Request Features
Our feature request system got a massive upgrade. Gone are the days of firing off a message into the void and hoping someone sees it. Now? It's a proper ticketing system.
What this means for you:- Track your requests: Every feature suggestion now gets its own ticket ID. You can check back anytime to see the status of your idea.
- See what's happening: No more wondering "did they see my suggestion?" Each ticket shows its current status — from "Received" to "Under Review" to "Planned" or "Completed."
- Browse the roadmap: Check out what other players are requesting. Vote up ideas you love. Your voice genuinely shapes what we build next.
- Get updates: When something you've requested moves forward, you'll know about it.
We've already seen some fantastic suggestions roll in — everything from improved multiclassing workflows to better inventory management. Keep them coming!
✨ Homebrew Spells Just Got Better
Homebrew is the heart and soul of D&D. Your DM's custom curse. That spell your wizard researched in-game. The ability to create and manage homebrew content is something we take seriously.
This week we pushed several improvements to how homebrew spells work:
Smarter spell creation: The spell builder now handles edge cases better. Whether you're creating a simple cantrip or a complex ritual with multiple effects, the form adapts to what you're building. Better validation: Catch issues before they become problems. The system now gives clearer feedback if something in your spell setup needs attention — missing ranges, unclear durations, or incompatible components. Improved display: Your custom spells now render more cleanly on character sheets and in the spellbook view. Descriptions are easier to read, and important details (damage dice, saving throws, casting time) stand out better. Compatibility fixes: Homebrew spells now play nicer with the 2024 rules options and legacy 2014 content. No more confusion about which ruleset your custom creation belongs to.If you've been holding off on adding your homebrew spells to ICE5e, now's a great time to dive in. Your DM's "Arcane Explosion of Mild Inconvenience" deserves to be properly documented.
📈 ASI Handling: Smoother Level-Ups
Ability Score Improvements (ASIs) are those precious moments when your character gets meaningfully stronger. Hit level 4? Time to bump those stats! But tracking when you get ASIs, which stats you can improve, and how feats factor in... it can get complicated.
We've polished the ASI system to make those level-up moments feel great:
Clearer prompts: When you hit an ASI level, ICE5e now makes it unmistakably clear. No more wondering "can I improve a stat now or do I need to wait?" Feat integration: Taking a feat instead of an ASI? The interface now presents this choice more cleanly. You can see your available options and understand the trade-offs at a glance. Validation improvements: The system better catches edge cases — like trying to increase a stat past its maximum, or misunderstanding how half-feats work with their minor ASI bonuses. 2024/2014 handling: Whether you're playing with the 2014 Player's Handbook rules or the shiny new 2024 version, ASIs work correctly for your chosen ruleset. The 2024 rules changed how often some classes get ASIs, and ICE5e tracks this properly now.Leveling up should feel exciting, not confusing. These changes help keep the focus on your character's growth story, not the bookkeeping.
What's Next?
We've got more improvements in the pipeline. The feedback system will keep evolving — we're considering features like commenting on tickets, community voting weights, and better categorization. Homebrew content will see continued love, with items and subclasses getting attention soon. And we're always refining the core character sheet experience based on how you actually use it.
But we can't build what you don't ask for. If there's something that would make your D&D prep easier, your character management smoother, or your game nights more fun — tell us! That Requests section isn't just for show. Every ticket gets read. Every suggestion gets considered.
