What's New: A Cleaner Character Sheet, Emoji Reactions, and Better Spell Management

This week we streamlined the character sheet with fewer tabs and clearer navigation, added emoji reactions to feature requests, and made your spell list smarter.

You've been telling us the character sheet feels crowded. Too many tabs. Too much scrolling. Important stuff buried in places you'd never think to look.

We listened. This week's update is all about making ICE5e faster and easier to use — with a redesigned character sheet, emoji reactions on feature requests, and a spell list that finally works the way you expect.

A Cleaner, Smarter Character Sheet

The character sheet is the thing you interact with most in ICE5e. It should feel effortless. This week, we gave it a serious overhaul.

What's new:
  • Fewer tabs, better organized — we consolidated related sections so everything you need is fewer clicks away. No more switching between five tabs just to check your spells and features.
  • Clear section headings — every section has a descriptive title with a tooltip explaining what's inside. No more guessing what "Resources" means.
  • Count badges at a glance — collapsed sections show how many items are inside, so you can find what you need without expanding everything.
  • Multi-column layouts — traits, features, and feats now display in a grid that uses your screen space better. Less scrolling, more seeing.
  • Consistent look and feel — headers, spacing, and behavior are now the same across every tab. The sheet finally feels like one tool, not twelve.
The goal was simple: every click you save and every scroll you avoid adds up over a session. We want the sheet to get out of your way so you can focus on the game.

Emoji Reactions on Feature Requests

The feature request board is how you tell us what to build next. This week, we made it more fun.

You can now react with any emoji on feature requests instead of just a thumbs-up. The new picker has search built in, so you can find exactly the right reaction without scrolling through everything.

  • Full emoji picker with search — find the perfect reaction fast
  • Multiple reactions per request — express nuanced opinions (the "I want this but it's not urgent" vs. "I need this yesterday" distinction)
  • Visual reaction counts — see at a glance how the community feels about each idea
Sometimes a single well-placed emoji says more than a paragraph. Now you have the tools to say it.

Your Spell List, Improved

Spells got a lot of love this week based on your feedback. Here's what changed.

All Your Spells in One Place

Spells from every source — your class, your species, your feats, your magic items — now appear in one unified spell list with source badges. You can see at a glance that Hellish Rebuke came from your Tiefling heritage while Shield came from your class. No more hunting through separate tabs.

Smarter Spell Filtering

The spell filter now understands your caster type. If you're a Sorcerer with known spells, you won't see every ritual in the game cluttering your list. The filter shows you what's actually relevant to your character.

Collapsible Source Groups

Spell source sections now start collapsed, so your spell list loads cleaner and faster. Click any source group to expand it and dig into the details.

More Reliable During Live Sessions

We also made several improvements under the hood to keep ICE5e running smoothly when it matters most — during your game.

Your edits are safe during sync — if you're updating your character while your DM is also making changes (like awarding inspiration or adjusting HP), your unsaved work is now preserved. No more losing changes because of a sync timing issue. No more random sheet crashes — we tracked down and fixed an issue that could cause the character sheet to silently stop responding in certain situations. Your sheet should now be rock solid during sessions. Better deity selection — picking a deity during character creation is now smoother and easier to navigate. Skill customization everywhere — you can now customize skills in every editor mode, not just some of them. If your character has a house-ruled proficiency or a story-based skill bonus, you can set it no matter how you're editing.

What's Next

We're working on some big features behind the scenes:

  • Monster spellcasting — give your homebrew monsters full spell lists with slot tracking
  • Spell notes — add personal reminders and notes to any spell on your sheet
  • Expanded species spellcasting — more flexibility for homebrew species with innate magic
More on all of that soon.
